Have you ever noticed? In this country, everyone speaks on behalf of the people, but for some reason, no one listens to them. On TV, in newspapers, and on social media, the same people have been telling us for years what we should think. Who to vote for, what to believe, who to love, who to cheer for…
And while doing so, they describe themselves as “intellectuals.”.
But I’ve been seeing something else for years.
The problem in this country isn't just ignorance. Perhaps the bigger problem is those who disguise ignorance as knowledge.
As Jean Baudrillard said, historical and intellectual waste is sometimes more dangerous than industrial waste. This is because factory waste pollutes the soil, while intellectual waste pollutes the human mind.
This is at the root of many of the debates we’re having today.
The arrogance of intellectuals who see themselves as above society, regard making mistakes as a sign of weakness, and look down on the people’s choices…
Perhaps it's time we asked this question:
Were those who have been trying to guide us for years truly enlightened, or were they simply a new privileged class marketing their own truths as absolute reality?
