The War Against Rojava: An Operation to Strangle Hope, Not a Land

Those who attack Rojava today are not just targeting a region. They are targeting the future. And that is why defending Rojava is not defending a geography; it is defending not to surrender.

What is going on in Rojava is a “conflict” but a strangulation operation carried out step by step, patiently and in a planned manner. The target of this war is not borders, military positions or temporary gains. The target is the will of the people; more precisely: the courage to exist of a society that does not obey. This is exactly what is called special war. An invisible but omnipresent strategy of annihilation that aims to kill without firing a bullet.

Rojava's crime is not that it is armed; it is that it is organized. What is not forgiven is that women do not submit, that peoples live together, that power is not established from above but from below. That is why the war against Rojava is not a defense reflex; it is an open revenge. Sovereign systems first isolate, then distort and finally crush every idea that could be an alternative to them. Rojava is experiencing all of these processes at the same time.

Bombardments, invasions, drone strikes... These are only the noisy part of the war. The real attack is being waged in the silent part. “Failure” is expected from a society condemned to starvation by embargoes. The destruction created in a geography where water is cut off, electricity is shot, trade routes are blocked is wanted to be written in the household of the revolution. While the perpetrator is hidden, the results are exposed and the crime is turned inside out. This is not only hypocrisy; it is a conscious ideological operation.

The media, diplomacy and international institutions are part of this private war. Rojava or “terror” bracketed or completely ignored. Ignoring is also a form of attack. Because what is invisible is rendered indefensible. While the truth is silenced, the lie is put into circulation. Thus, while the attackers are legitimized, those who resist are declared guilty.

This war also targets society from within. Hope is seen as the most dangerous enemy. People are constantly being told “you are alone”, “you can't stand it”, “there is no choice” It is called a "patriarchal poison". The women's liberation struggle is specifically targeted and patriarchal poison is put back into circulation. Ethnic and religious differences are being scratched and the idea of a common life is being dynamited. The special war advances with more rumors than tanks, more insecurity than bombs.

But there is only one truth in all these attacks: Rojava could not be destroyed. Because this war is fueled not by its power but by its fear. The rulers know that the possibility of life emerging in Rojava is contagious. The idea of a non-state life where women are free, where peoples make decisions together is dangerous not only for the Middle East but for the whole world.

That is why the special war against Rojava is actually a global message: “It is forbidden to live otherwise.” But at the same time, the existence of Rojava is a counter message: “It is possible to live by resisting.”

Those who attack Rojava today are not just targeting a region. They are targeting the future. And that is why defending Rojava is not defending a geography; it is defending not to surrender. To stand against the special war is to take sides not only at the front, but also in memory, language and organized life.

Because there is no neutrality in this war. Either you accept drowning or you defend breathing.
