The Shroud of Mystery in the Gülistan Doku Case is Lifted: Operations in 7 Provinces, 13 Detentions and Obscured Evidence

Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a detention warrant for 13 people, including Mustafa Türkay Sonel, son of Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, and Doku's boyfriend Zeinal Abakarov.

TUNCELI -  Since January 5, 2020, there have been shocking developments in the investigation of Gülistan Doku, a Munzur University student who has not been heard from since January 5, 2020, which will completely change the course of the case. While simultaneous operations were organized in 7 provinces within the scope of the investigation, which was expanded on suspicion of “murder”, the blood-curdling messages of the prime suspect Zeinal Abakarov and how the digital data was destroyed came to light.

GOVERNOR'S SON AND LOVER ABAKAROV IN CUSTODY

Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a detention warrant for 13 people, including Mustafa Türkay Sonel, son of Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, and Doku's boyfriend Zeinal Abakarov. It is learned that the operation was carried out on suspicion of “intentional killing” and “tampering with evidence” based on new reports by JASAT and National Criminal Bureau.

ABAKAROV'S SUSPICIOUS MESSAGES: “THE STATE CAN'T DO ANYTHING EITHER”

In the correspondence included in the file, Zeinal Abakarov's oppressive and directive statements against Gülistan Doku drew attention. The following expressions used by Abakarov in his messages led the investigating authorities to focus on the possibility of “threat and detention”:

”I'm afraid they are keeping you somewhere by force. Gülistan, don't be afraid, trust me. I will come, let him kill me if he wants, but I will try to get you out. The state can't do anything either.”

Abakarov was also recorded talking about plans to use his Russian citizenship to smuggle Gulistan through the consulate.

DIGITAL MURDER: HOW WAS THE DATA ERASED?

The most critical point of the investigation was the “cleaning” of digital media after the disappearance. The horrifying details reflected in the expert reports are as follows:

SIM CARD CONUNDRUM: It was determined that the sim card, which was issued as a spare by Gülistan's family, was taken from the family through the governor's office but was not submitted to the official investigation file.

MIDNIGHT OPERATION: On the night of January 17, days after Gülistan disappeared, it was discovered that her Instagram account had been logged into. It was confirmed that a large amount of data on the account had been deleted in this early morning login.

IP ADDRESS GAVE IT AWAY: It was revealed that the IP address of the logins to Instagram and WhatsApp accounts exactly matched the internet usage records of a person named in the case. This proved that the evidence had been professionally obfuscated.

INVESTIGATION DEEPENS

While the interrogation of the 13 detained suspects continues, it is reported that the security services are particularly focused on unraveling the chronological link between the individuals who carried out the digital intervention and the last moments when Gülistan Doku was last seen. The public awaits the final outcome after 4 years of silence.
