History Writes Not Only Heroes, But Also Betrayers

CHP Manisa MP Özgür Özel continues to be at the center of debates within the party. However, when we look at what happened today, it seems that some facts are being deliberately ignored.

In the process that led to the 38th Assembly's absolute nullity, there is a fundamental fact that has been forgotten: It is the actors of this process, not others, who are the addressees of the allegations of delegate bargaining, rent and interest relations. This is where the essence of the debate lies.

Local governments, which were won with the hard work of years, the sweat of organizations and the trust of voters, have been seriously eroded due to wrong candidate preferences, personal calculations and interest relations. Instead of producing solutions to social problems, the party has been turned into a stage for internal bickering and personal struggles for personal favors.

“Those who emerged with the rhetoric of ”30 or nothing" did not disappear when they failed to achieve their goals; on the contrary, they preferred to create new agendas instead of taking responsibility for their failures.

Those who thought they were playing politics by showing a red card had to see that at the end of the day, that red card turned back on themselves and the municipal administrations they supported.

Even more striking is the double standard. Those who reacted to a small protest at Anıtkabir were silent when the same place was turned into a political rallying ground. Those who speak loudly when it comes to party principles do not show the same sensitivity when it comes to their own political calculations.

At this point, it is clear that those who try to generate politics through attacks on beards, mustaches and personal preferences ignore the real problems within the party, the merit debates and ideological drifts. It does not convince anyone that those who cannot raise their voices against recruitment politicians produce fights over symbols.

The real issue is that the Republican People's Party's energies are not focused on Turkey's problems, but on the political future of certain figures. The damage caused to the party by an approach that has pushed social issues to the background for years and shaped all its politics around certain figures is now more clearly visible.

History does not only write about heroes. History also writes about those who labor; it also writes about those who grow the party. But it also writes about those who put their personal interests before the interests of the party, those who undermine the will of the organization and those who wear down the party for political calculations.

And that history will pass judgment on everyone when the day comes.
