Author, journalist, and translator Liz Behmoaras passed away at the age of 75. Her most recent book, *Azra, the Little Giant Woman*, had just been published.
Born in Istanbul in 1950, Liz Behmoaras graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature at Boğaziçi University and began her career as an editor in the culture section of Şalom from 1986 to 1996.
Behmoaras became known for his biographical works focusing on the lives of people who lived in Turkey during the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic. Behmoaras’s family named him “Lizi,” a shortened form of his grandmother Eliza’s name.
However, Behmoaras used the pen name “Liz” in her writing career. She authored books such as “Suat Derviş: A Legendary Woman and Her Era,” ‘Mazhar Osman: The Storm in the Closed Box,‘ ”End-of-Century Testimonies: Mediterranean Identity, Identity, and Intellectualism,“ was fluent in many languages, including English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
Behmoaras’s latest book, “Azra, the Little Giant Woman,” was published five months ago.
