The congress debate that started in CHP continues. Following the statement made on behalf of 81 provincial chairs, former Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer made a statement this time.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the demands for a convention within the party organizations and said, “Nobody should beg for a convention from me,” further escalating the debate.
MPs such as Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, Hasan Öztürkmen, Orhan Sarıbal and Sevda Erdan Kılıç openly criticized Özgür Özel's exit and expressed the need for a convention.
Response from the headquarters with a move of provincial chairs
The CHP administration responded to the calls for a convention from within the CHP through party spokesperson Deniz Yücel, but when Yücel's statement further escalated the debate, Özgür Özel said, “As the chairman, I am ending this debate.” However, the CHP Headquarters administration did not find this statement sufficient and issued a ‘joint statement’ on behalf of 81 provincial chairs.
The internal opposition did not find the declaration, which stated that the provincial chairs supported Özgür Özel and did not demand a congress, credible.
Despite the fact that many provincial chairs had conveyed the demand for a convention to their own organizations, the publication of the statement with a single signature raised the question of whether the statement was made by the headquarters without the knowledge of most of the provincial chairs.
Tunç Soyer also raised the flag
While the debate on the statement made on behalf of 81 provincial chairs continues, another outburst came from former Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer. Soyer, who is known to be close to CHP's 7th President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, issued a statement with the title “Long Live Our Struggle”.
“CHP has to succeed in becoming the hope of all citizens who have lost hope from both the government and the opposition,” Soyer said, arguing that the normalization policies are not accepted at the grassroots and said “pave the way for the organization.”.
LONG LIVE OUR STRUGGLE
With the March 31, 2024 local elections, the AKP's 22-year rule suffered a major defeat for the first time and the CHP became the first party.
Our citizens have given up hope from the government due to the poverty, unemployment, cost of living and similar problems they have been experiencing for 22 years....
- Tunç Soyer (@tuncsoyer) November 11, 2024
Tunç Soyer's statement is as follows:
“With the local elections of March 31, 2024, the AKP's 22-year rule suffered a major defeat for the first time and CHP became the first party. Our citizens have given up hope from the government due to the poverty, unemployment, cost of living and similar problems they have been experiencing for 22 years.
4 million AKP voters did not go to the polls, giving their party a warning and paving the way for the CHP to become the first party. However, since the citizens had given up on the government, the CHP leadership preferred to implement a strategy known as “normalization” or “softening” instead of a tough opposition that would force the government to hold general elections and increase its credibility and credibility in the eyes of the citizens.
This strategy has disappointed millions of people who have been victimized by the government's policies and CHP voters who want to be in power as soon as possible. The seven-and-a-half-month period gave the government a breathing space and allowed it to design a new future with new fictions. The normalization strategy, which legitimized the government's policies, instead of leading the citizens' objection and rebellion, led to the normalization of the government's policies in the eyes of the citizens and caused the citizens to lose hope with each passing day.
However, the CHP is the greatest power to remedy the despair of millions who have lost confidence and hope in the country and its future.
Therefore, “EARLY GENERAL ELECTION” should immediately become the most insistent and prioritized political demand. For this reason, the normalization strategy should be abandoned as soon as possible, and policies that will put a smile on the faces of the “fighting opposition” and the citizens should be put forward.
The CHP should be a partner in the struggle of millions of people who struggle every day to survive against the policies of the government, it should be a breath of fresh air in this struggle and produce solutions. If negotiations are to be held, they should be held together with all opposition parties on strategies on how to overthrow the government and to create a “Turkey Alliance”. Citizens who know that the literature of poverty does not satisfy and who are already experiencing poverty themselves; if the Republican People's Party comes to power:
- How to bring down inflation,
- How to stop the cost of living,
- How to eliminate unemployment,
- How to improve Turkey's international relations with the principle of “peace at home, peace in the world” - How to end import policies in agriculture,
- How to change foreign-dependent energy, investment and financial policies,
- What are the policies on education, health, justice
- He wants to hear what vision he has for advanced technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence.
Our people, who are struggling with painful problems, do not want to see a CHP that neither normalizes nor pursues artificial agendas, but a CHP with a political leadership and a party program that is capable of solving all of Turkey's problems and that boldly puts overthrowing the government as its top priority.
A 101-year-old political party, which has carried out the Republican Revolution, needs to “normalize” with all citizens who also vote for other political parties, not with an administration that maintains its power by polarizing people.
If the Republican People's Party leadership does not make this choice very urgently, the price will be very heavy and the power that we came so close to for the first time in 22 years will be missed and missed. This choice will also be instrumental in ending the problems and turmoil within the Party and marching to power with one heart.
It is imperative for the Party leadership to fulfill the requirements of this choice, to listen to the voices of all the sons of the Party and to pave the way for the organization.
This is the demand of the grassroots who want to be in power and no power will be able to prevent it.
CHP must succeed in becoming the hope of all citizens who have lost hope in both the government and the opposition.”
