Despite all the controversy, preparations for the National Education Academy have been partially completed and training will begin on April 13, 2026.
Even though we are against the National Education Academy, it is necessary to inform young teachers about the legislation.
In this sense, it is important for a teacher entering the National Education Academy to know what criteria are needed to graduate from the academy.
The criteria for success in the National Education Academy are regulated in Article 10 of the Law on the Teaching Profession. According to the article on success in preparatory education, the process will be as follows;
-At least two written exams are held for each theoretical course in preparatory education. Those who have a grade average of sixty out of one hundred and above in each course are considered successful. Those who fail the theoretical courses are given an additional exam for each course they fail. Those who score sixty and above in the additional exam are considered successful in the relevant course. Those who fail any course at the end of the additional exams are dismissed from the Academy.
-In order to determine the level of success in reflecting the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors acquired in the preparatory education to the educational environment, the teacher candidate is evaluated three times. This evaluation is carried out by the educational staff responsible for the practice, the principal of the educational institution where the practice is carried out and the practice teacher on the evaluation form created by the Academy according to the teaching assignment areas based on the teaching profession competencies determined by the Ministry. The evaluation score is determined by taking the arithmetic average of the scores given on the evaluation forms filled in separately by the educational staff responsible for the practice, the principal of the educational institution and the practice teacher. Twenty percent of the first evaluation score, thirty percent of the second evaluation score, and fifty percent of the third evaluation score are taken to determine the practical course success score. Those who have a practical course success score of seventy and above out of one hundred are considered successful. Those who fail in practical courses are dismissed from the Academy.
-At the end of the preparatory training, forty percent of the arithmetic average of the success grades of the theoretical courses and sixty percent of the arithmetic average of the success grades of the practical courses are added together to determine the success score for appointment.
-Attendance to preparatory education is compulsory. Those who cannot or will not be able to attend the preparatory education for a total of twenty days or more during the preparatory education due to documented health excuses are suspended to be enrolled again in the first preparatory education program following the removal of their excuse. Except for documented health excuses, teacher candidates may be granted up to ten days of leave during the preparatory education program depending on their excuses.
-It is essential to determine the practice teacher from among the head teacher, specialist teacher and teachers with the highest number of years of service in the educational institution where the practical training is carried out, provided that they are in the same field as the teacher candidate. In case there is no teacher in the same field in the educational institution where the teacher candidate participates in practical training, a practice teacher from a different field is assigned by taking into account the same ranking.
Although the success criteria in the National Education Academy may seem objective at first glance, the fact that the application scores affect the success score by sixty percent clearly shows that the academy cannot be objective either.
