In a statement released on the 107th anniversary of May 19, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) saluted the historic struggle against imperialist occupation and sultanate and drew attention to the current political situation. Stating that the country is being pushed into a new darkness with the order of holdings and sects, TKP called for the exit from NATO and the establishment of a Socialist Republic for full independence.
Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) issued a written statement on the occasion of May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. In the statement saluting the historic step taken 107 years ago by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the cadres who led the War of Independence, parallels were drawn between today's picture of Turkey and the occupation period of the past and it was emphasized that the solution would only be possible with a “Workers” Republic".
”The War of Independence also put an end to the Sultanate Order”
In the statement, it was reminded that May 19, 1919 was the first step of the great struggle against the imperialist occupation and the rotten sultanate:
”Imperialism was a disease that dragged countries to destruction and peoples to misery, while the sultanate was a despicable order that disregarded the people and their will for the interests and wealth of a handful of parasites. The War of Independence put an end to the sultanate along with the imperialist occupation.”
”Today, the order of conglomerates and sects reigns”
TKP argued that the country is facing a similar dark picture again after a century and criticized the current political and economic order with harsh words. Stating that those who govern the country prioritize the interests of the conglomerate above everything else, the party stated that this situation tramples on independence and sovereignty.
Solution Prescription from TKP: “NATO Must Be Withdrawn, Socialist Republic Must Be Established”
Stating that what needs to be done against war, exploitation, poverty and disregard for the will of the people is clear, the Communist Party of Turkey listed the urgent steps as follows:
The presence of imperialism and its terrorist organization NATO in the territories must be ended,
NATO must be withdrawn and all NATO bases must be closed, the reign of multinational monopolies, conglomerates and cults must be ended.
“Turkey will regain its independence and sovereignty with a Workers” Republic, a Socialist Republic. With respect to our people who created the liberation, the cadres who led the struggle and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.".
