The Darkness Knotted in a Woman's Hair

What is being targeted in Rojava is not just a woman. What is being targeted is the possibility of another life. And in this story, the barbarians will never have the last word.

The woman who was brutally murdered in Rojava by the HTS gangster contra forces, saying ”this braid is all that is left of her” was not just a body. She was the embodiment of a will that had been suppressed for centuries, the possibility of freedom and a rising objection against the patriarchal darkness. The mentality that murdered her is rooted not only in the trigger of a gun, but also in an outdated mind that has been carried from the depths of history to the present day, which considers women as enemies, life as a threat and freedom as “sedition”.

For this mentality, a woman is either an obedient shadow or a “deviation” that must be destroyed. Cutting a woman's hair and displaying it as a trophy is not just an individual atrocity; it is a symbolic execution aimed at destroying her identity, memory and dignity. For thousands of years, hair has symbolized femininity, resilience and continuity; cutting it off is a primitive but conscious way of saying “I am erasing you from history”.

Even more horrifying is the proud display of this murder on social media. This shows that barbarism no longer needs to hide; on the contrary, it expects applause. Violence is not only practiced here, it is exposed. The female body is reduced to an object of propaganda. Thus, murder becomes not only a physical attack, but also a moral and intellectual one: “Your life is worthless, but your death is our victory.”

This mind is a modern medieval mind. It is neither traditional nor religious, because it carries neither the compassion of tradition nor the morality of faith. This nihilistic mentality, which makes the sacred a cover for its own brutality, produces misogyny not as a by-product but as a condition of existence. Because when women are liberated, the entire power architecture of this mind collapses. A woman's voice disrupts their order; a woman's thinking threatens their god; a woman's living is a rebellion in itself.

What is being targeted in Rojava is not just a woman. What is being targeted is the possibility of another life. It is the idea that equality, collective resistance and a world where women are the subjects is possible. It is no coincidence that the murder is so exhibitionist; it wants to instill fear. “Look,” he says, “this is the end of anyone who opposes us.”

But history keeps the memory of resistance, not fear.

And now it is not just about condemnation. Condemnation is a cheap ritual that often soothes the conscience for a short time but leaves the order in place. The real issue is to shatter the political language, the male-dominated blessings, the partnership nourished by silence that makes these atrocities possible. Because these murders are not isolated; they are the logical and inevitable result of a worldview that dehumanizes women.

It is necessary to speak frankly: Any ideology that targets women has already lost sight of humanity. The murdered woman in Rojava is a clear document of crime left on the conscience not only of a geography but of this age. Those who look at her and remain silent, those who remain “neutral”, those who calculate balance are extensions of this barbarism. Silence is not innocent here; silence is a silent partner in crime.

But let them not think they have forgotten this: History takes the side of the resisters, not the executioners. After a while, the name of the women who were humiliated by cutting their hair becomes the wind; it knows no borders, breaks down walls and spreads from language to language. The barbaric mind that thinks it is destroying them actually documents its own decay.

No order that thinks it can keep women in line through fear has ever lasted. Because life knows how to defend itself. Because women's resistance is more stubborn and longer lasting than death. And because no matter how organized the darkness of this age is, it is the traces left by the women who want to be silenced that will disperse it.

Barbarism reigns by shouting.
Life wins through resistance.
And in this story, the barbarians will never have the last word.
