The recent debates have unfortunately gone beyond differences of opinion and have started to turn into a systematic lynch culture against people who think differently. Today, people who support our President Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and remind us of his efforts, political struggle and contributions over the years are targeted, belittled and silenced on social media. However, democracy is a political culture in which not only those who share the same views but also those who think differently can express themselves freely.
The greatest strength of a political party is not only its current cadres. The real power lies in the political memory, accumulation and past struggles of that party. Because political memory represents the efforts made, the prices paid and the people who walked shoulder to shoulder for years. If a party starts to ignore its own past and discredit the people it fought with yesterday, it not only loses people, but also damages its own identity and social memory. Today, we regret to see that the language of social media has overtaken political reason and common sense. Even a holiday greeting can cause people to be attacked en masse. It is thought-provoking to see people being insulted just for sharing a photo, posting a holiday message or showing respect to Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
The Republican People's Party is the oldest political party in Turkey. The language of this party must be unifying, not divisive. Criticism is one thing; organized insults, targeting and lynching culture is another. What we need today is not to raise anger, but to recall the party culture, the spirit of solidarity and the memory of common struggle. We need an understanding that protects common values, not deepens resentments.
For this reason, all Republican People's Party members should respect past struggles and create a political climate that listens to each other, not antagonizes each other.
On this occasion;
On Saturday, May 30th at 14.00 at the CHP Headquarters, let's be there to celebrate Eid with Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and show our sense of unity together.
