The group announced the details at a public relations event on Wednesday. The new single “Angry” was also introduced there.
Two of the twelve new songs feature drummer Charlie Watts, who died in August 2021. The remaining songs feature drummer Steve Jordan, who played drums for the Stones on their 60th anniversary tour last year.
In honor of Watts, former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman also appeared on “Hackney Diamonds“. Lady Gaga also appears as a guest vocalist. The trio has not commented on a possible tour.
The Stones have repeatedly dropped vague hints about a new album. In August, for example, a mysterious newspaper ad for a fictitious glass repair company, “Hackney Diamonds”, appeared in a local London newspaper. Many music journalists interpreted this as a kind of pre-announcement.
Guitarist Keith Richards spoke about the new songs last year and especially praised the new Stones drummer Steve Jordan
It was also recently reported that former bassist Bill Wyman and Paul McCartney had entered the studio with the Stones.
The Rolling Stones have not released a studio album of new songs since 2005. In 2016, the album “Blue & Lonesome” with cover versions was released.
