Muhammed Yakut, who made headlines on social media before the election with his politically charged videos and was wanted by Interpol under a Red Notice, was arrested in Spain.
According to a report by Patronlar Dünyası, the National Intelligence Organization contacted Spanish authorities after locating Muhammed Yakut. Following this, Spanish security forces carried out an operation targeting Yakut.
Yakut, who is also alleged to be linked to crime syndicate leader Sedat Peker, will be extradited to Turkey once the international legal proceedings are completed, according to the report.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Istanbul 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance had issued an arrest warrant for Muhammed Yakut on charges of “robbery committed by multiple persons acting in concert” and “unlawful acquisition or dissemination of personal data.” The Prosecutor’s Office had sent a request to the Ministry of Justice’s General Directorate of International Law and Foreign Relations to issue a red notice for Yakut’s arrest at the international level.
After the Ministry deemed the request appropriate and it was approved by the Directorate General of Security’s Interpol Department and the Interpol General Secretariat, a Red Notice was issued for Muhammed Yakut.
