According to reports, an argument broke out between Efe and his neighbors, who were trying to prevent the trees from being cut down, and this argument escalated into a fight involving knives and sticks. During the brawl, Nurullah Efe, his son Hikmet Efe, and Recep Aytekin were injured and taken to the hospital by emergency medical personnel.
In his statement, Nurullah Efe claimed that the argument began when he objected to the trees being cut down, and that the other party cursed at him, brandished a knife, and attacked him with sticks. Efe maintained that neither he nor his son had attacked anyone with a knife and stated that he was filing a complaint.
In a written statement issued by the People’s Liberation Party (HKP) regarding the incident, it was claimed that the attack was carried out in an organized and premeditated manner, and it was noted that HKP Chairman Nurullah Efe Ankut was targeted by a mob consisting mostly of AKP members. The statement indicated that Nurullah Efe had been attacked after attempting to prevent the cutting down of trees in a garden belonging to others near his home. It was reported that Efe sustained a head injury and that his son, Hikmet Efe, was also injured.
When reviewing the suspects“ statements, it was revealed that Nurullah Efe has a criminal record for ”property damage,“ while Hikmet Efe has a record for ”assault,“ ”threats,“ ”insult,“ and ”violation of residential privacy.”.
The father and son who were taken into custody were transferred to the Istanbul Anatolia Courthouse after their statements were taken.
It was emphasized that the legal proceedings regarding this incident are ongoing.
