Journalist Fatih Altaylı published an article on his website about Dilan Polat and her husband, who have been frequently in the news in recent days due to money laundering allegations and related statements.
Dilan Polat's husband Engin Polat's 15 thousand lira tax defense
Altaylı made the following remarks:
“Dilan Polat and her husband were among the most talked-about figures in recent days. However, their decision to put their lives on display—particularly by appearing on a television show and stating, ‘I spend 750,000 TL a day’—caught everyone’s attention and sparked controversy.
To spend 750,000 TL a day, you need to earn approximately 300 million TL a year. To generate this income, you must make a substantial pre-tax profit of 500 million TL and report that profit to pay the corresponding taxes. In addition, receiving such a profit as a dividend from one’s companies is also subject to taxation.

When these large figures caught the public’s attention, a question immediately came to people’s minds: ‘So, how much tax do those with such high incomes pay?’
However, when Dilan Polat and her husband failed to provide satisfactory answers to these questions, the issue of taxes began to come to the fore. Investigations revealed that the Polats had not paid their taxes.
Now, everyone is talking about Dilan Polat and her husband’s tax issue. This situation serves as yet another reminder of the importance of paying taxes, and—whether they mean to or not—they’re teaching the public a lesson on the matter.
”As a result, thanks to Dilan Polat and her husband, everyone has begun to gain a better understanding of the concept of taxes and is now more aware of the necessity of paying taxes."
What did Engin Polat say?
The claim that Dilan Polat paid 15,000 lira in taxes over six months for her company, Dilan Jewelry, also sparked debate on social media. One user said, “Dilan Jewelry paid only 15,000 TL in taxes. The company made a tax payment covering a 6-month period (June 2022–January 2023). Is Dilan Polat making fun of us?” In response, Engin Polat issued a statement.
“We didn’t do any work during those months”
Engin Polat said, “A friend of ours mentioned that our company paid 15,000 TL in taxes, but the tax payment period began on the 22nd of the 5th month. The company was incorporated on July 21 as a gift for my wife. It began its commercial operations on the 1st of the 8th month. People usually show a loss in the first 4–5 months; we didn’t do any business during those months. Even if we had, there wouldn’t be any VAT to pay—you’re buying new inventory, so there’s no profit. Paying 15,000 TL in taxes is a good thing. ’A newly launched brand doesn’t turn a profit right away,’ he explained, emphasizing that people with an understanding of business should evaluate this kind of information correctly.
