Despite Özgür Özel's declaration that ‘the discussion is closed’, the extraordinary convention discussions continue in the Republican People's Party.
There are widespread rumors that a group of deputies within the CHP Parliamentary Group and delegate groups in different provinces will call for an extraordinary convention.

“It's not hard to find the signature”
Former Bakırköy Mayor Bülent Kerimoğlu of CHP made striking statements about the extraordinary convention process in a program on KRT TV.
Kerimoğlu pointed out that the Republican People's Party always has an extraordinary congress discussion before the congress processes start and said, “I don't know whether the ordinary congress process will start in January or February, but before the ordinary congress process starts, an extraordinary congress process starts in the Republican People's Party before January or February. It is not very difficult to find enough signatures for this. There is an intense demand from delegates in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Adana, Mersin and all around Turkey.”.
“An extraordinary congress is needed”
Underlining that the extraordinary convention debate in the CHP is not only a debate involving the party leadership, Bülent Kerimoğlu continued his evaluations as follows:
“I think the political maturation is now sufficient for an extraordinary congress. Regarding the mathematical calculation, one more than half of the delegates must declare the convention call with a notary signature. Regarding this, the mathematical calculation is now 3 up and 5 down. In the near future, the Republican People's Party needs an extraordinary congress where the discourse of the party program in the Republican People's Party and the political attitude of the Republican People's Party in recent periods will be discussed, not a discussion on who will be the chairman. The Republican People's Party will go to an extraordinary congress to discuss whether the Republican People's Party is evolving away from its own political discourse, its own values and its own political stance. We need an extraordinary congress in the Republican People's Party where the Republican People's Party will reopen itself to discussion with its program, discourse and cadres, rather than discussing individuals, Mr. Mansur, Ekrem İmamoğlu, Özgür Özel or Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu. I see this in the will of the delegates.”
“If he had said these things, he would not have won”
Stating that the need for a congress in the CHP stems from a change in policy, CHP's Kerimoğlu said, “I think the political maturation for the demand for an extraordinary congress is now complete. Because if the delegates in the Republican People's Party had said ‘I want to negotiate with the AKP, I want to shake hands with Tayyip Erdoğan, I will welcome Tayyip Erdoğan standing up in the Assembly, I will seek a compromise with Tayyip Erdoğan's understanding of governance’ in the congress held last year, it would not have been possible for him to win in that congress.”.
