The investigation into the case of Gülistan Doku, a university student in Tunceli who has been missing since 2020, “shelved” after 6 years has brought Turkey to its feet. In the file, which is at the center of the suspicion of murder, shocking facts and horrifying allegations are coming to light one by one with the detention of Tuncay Sonel, the Governor of Tunceli at the time.
The operations deepened by the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in the light of new evidence revealed that the incident was not just a case of disappearance, but a systematic crime network.
8 Arrests in the Grip of Justice
Eight people, including former police officers and public employees, were arrested and sent to prison on charges of tampering with evidence and participation in the murder. Zeinal Abakarov, the ex-boyfriend of the young girl, Engin Yücer, her stepfather, and Gökhan Ertok, the former police officer who allegedly deleted the sim card data, are also among the arrested.
Blood-Curdling Statements by Sister Aygül Doku: “Our lawyer is being denounced!”
Speaking after the operation, sister Aygül Doku claimed that not only her sister but also other young girls were targeted and emphasized “gang”. Doku's statements will change the course of the investigation:
”Not Just Gulistan”: “After the governor was taken into custody, our lawyer started receiving thousands of tips. These names have harmed not only our sister but many innocent young girls.”
“Tuncay Sonel is the head of this gang. His son Mustafa Türkay Sonel murdered Gülistan, while his father mobilized all institutions and destroyed the evidence.”
“All monsters gathered around a 21-year-old young girl. But we trust our Chief Prosecutor Ebru Cansu, she will solve this atrocity.”
State Hospital Chief Physician and Governor's Son Under Interrogation
The most critical link in the investigation is the senior figures who were in office at the time. The interrogations of former Governor Tuncay Sonel, his son Mustafa Türkay Sonel and former Tunceli State Hospital Chief Physician Çağdaş Özdemir continue.
