In tonight’s episode of the series, during the ‘closing prayer’ ceremony held for Nilay, the imam leading the prayer forgot to pray for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, so Sönmez Anne stepped in and had the imam say the prayer.

The character of Pembe Ünal, played by Sibel Taşçıoğlu, meanwhile, while recounting the incident to her family, said, “The imam didn’t mention Atatürk. My dear, would anyone ever do that on purpose? If it weren’t for Atatürk, this nation would have been lost. None of us would be here. Is there anyone who doesn’t know this?”—making a reference to religious leaders who have recently failed to lead prayers for Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms.
