I have been pointing out the same danger in this country for years.
I have said it many times in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey:
If individual armament is not brought under control, we will pay a heavy price as a society.
Today, unfortunately, we are experiencing the pain of being right.
It is no longer about street fighting.
This is no longer an isolated incident.
It is now directly about our future.
Because today in Turkey, guns enter schools.
What happened in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş has clearly shown us this:
The children of this country now go to school not only out of fear of exams, but also out of fear for their safety.
We are talking about a situation where a teacher lost his life and students were injured.
This is not just a security vulnerability.
This is a serious weakness in the most fundamental area of state responsibility.
I am saying it clearly from here:
If children in a country go to school afraid, it means that the state is not fulfilling its most basic duty.
So how did we get here?
Because we have been warning for years, but no one listens.
Because it is easy to acquire weapons in this country, but difficult to control them.
Because individual armament has spread almost uncontrollably.
I said this on the floor of the Parliament:
“If you spread guns, you spread violence.”
What we are experiencing today is a painful proof of this statement.
Look, it is not just about issuing licenses.
It is a question of controlling who has that weapon, how it is stored, who has access to it.
A father with a gun in his house,
A young man who can't control his anger,
Unmonitored licenses,
Ignored psychological problems,
A language that normalizes violence...
It all comes together and the result is:
Death in the schoolyard, fear in classrooms, unspeakable pain in families.
But we are still discussing the issue on the surface.
“Increase the number of security guards”,
“Install a camera system”...
Yes, these may be necessary.
But it is not enough.
If you ignore the tendency towards violence in society,
if you ignore the hopelessness of the youth,
if you reduce the education system only to exams,
if you don't take into account the economic and social pressures that families face...
Then such incidents become inevitable.
Because violence is a consequence.
And like any result, it is the product of a chain of causes.
Violence in schools today,
In fact, it is the result of years of accumulated wrong policies, negligence and disregard of warnings.
This is my open call to the government:
Immediately limit individual armament.
Reorganize licensing processes.
Make inspections truly effective.
Aggravate the conditions for gun ownership.
But don't stop there.
Strengthen guidance and psychological support systems in schools.
Make young people feel that they are not alone.
Make educational institutions not only places of knowledge but also safe places to live.
And most importantly;
take this country out of the politics of polarization, anger and fear.
Because from a generation that grew up in fear,
from a society shaped by anger,
a healthy future.
Every painful event today reminds us of the same reality:
This picture is no coincidence.
This picture is the result of policies pursued for years, choices made and problems blatantly magnified.
So let's be clear; we have come to this point through politics and we have to find the solution through the right politics.
If the necessary steps are not taken today,
tomorrow we will have to pay a much heavier price.
My last word is very clear:
Secular, scientific and public education is not a choice but a necessity for the children of this country.
Unless the understanding that makes education a space for ideological debates, neglect and insecurity is abandoned;
We can neither stop the violence nor protect our future.
If there is a gun where there should be a pen,
it's not just security there;
state intelligence has also collapsed.
