Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, regarding the resignation of independent Ankara MP Adnan Beker, who resigned from the IYI Party, to join the CHP, said, “I learned about it from the press a day ago. We know him, of course, he was the IYI Party Group Chairman in Ankara Metropolitan. We meet from time to time, but I was not aware of the transfer.”.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel responded to criticism about Adnan Beker's transfer.

“Mansur Yavaş said, ‘Mr. Adnan can come’”

Özel commented on the comments made by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş after Adnan Beker joined the CHP:

“I read it in Brussels too. I didn't say it was his bail, I said it was his trust. We know Mr. Adnan as someone very close to Mr. Mansur. Six months ago, Mr. Mansur told me, ‘Adnan Beker can come’. Then Mr. Adnan was met with him a few times. Because of some of Mr. Adnan's past statements, we said, ‘Let's watch him a little bit.’ Mr. Adnan Beker was a little surprised by Mr. Mansur's relations with the parliament, his attendance, his relations with our group. ‘They do it in such a way,’ he says, ‘It's as if Mr. Mansur said, ’I don't vouch for him.‘ We are sincere with Mr. Mansur, you know, the group will mingle, and when I was wearing the badge, I said to the provincial chairman, ’Guys, work a lot in the second district. Because we need some dynamism in the second district, it's where the CHP is weak, and Mr. Adnan has the potential to get a very good vote there. ‘I entrust it to you,’ I said to the provincial chairman, ‘Work together in the second district.’ We also entrust it to the group, we also entrust it to Mr. Mansur. Because they are close. Otherwise, of course everyone vouches for themselves. I don't understand in what context, why and where it was said. But there is no problem between them. I mean, we know Mr. Adnan through Mr. Mansur.”

“We are not in a position to say ‘go’ to the future”

(On Beker's statement that he did not vote for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu) “Somebody should ask Mr. Adnan one day. He told me the other day. He says, ‘I got angry when the journalist pressed me a lot during a TV broadcast and I told him. He swears by oath that he did in fact vote for him. I said, ’That part is up to you.‘ He says, ’The journalist made me angry, if you hadn't given it to me. I said I didn't give it there,‘ he says. He swears under oath that he did in fact give it. I'll tell you something like this. In this parliamentary ground and equation, we are in no position to say ’Go‘ to anyone who says ’I will come‘ of the Republican People's Party. Because I'm not going to name names, but the friends who are upset about Adnan Beker's coming, who came from the CHP lists in the May 14 elections, who made the list, then they don't say anything. The people who made that decision... The friend who held the pen in his hand when 39 deputies were given on the list that day is now criticizing Adnan Beker's inclusion. Adnan Beker has been independent for six months. He was offered seven times by the AK Party. He said, ’I was elected with the votes of the opposition, I'm stopping. As long as he was without a party, he was constantly being offered and invited. He wanted to end that process, he wanted to come to his father's house. He will come with us and work and fight. What should we do? And we have or will wear the badge. Friends, ‘No, this is not right, that is not right.’ This is the parliament that was formed with its mistakes and good deeds. And we are trying to make an equation out of it, we are trying to make a march to power out of it. And for this reason, he should not think that everything is rosy and that he is doing politics in comfortable conditions. One day that one member of parliament, that one nail saves a horseshoe, a horseshoe saves a horse, that horse saves the country. Maybe that one nail will save the shoe, the horse and the homeland when they try to bring a constitutional amendment in front of us. So what are they talking about? Nothing.‘
