Yılmaz Güney's family has responded to actress Farah Zeynep Abdullah's statement: “He is the best woman-beater of our cinema and a man who is rich in types of violence and uses effective weapons”.
Making a written statement on behalf of Güney's family, lawyer Bişar Alınak said, “Yılmaz Güney is an artist who, in his own words, expressed that he ‘found himself inadequate and that he was trying to develop and change’ in his attitude towards women's rights, and who encouraged everyone who turned to him on this issue to transform, to move away from ‘feudal and reactionary codes’ as he put it, and to self-criticize and progress tirelessly.”.
“IT IS, TO PUT IT MILDLY, OUTRAGEOUS”
“To defame an artist who has been a symbol of sincere efforts to end the spiral of violence in society, who has criticized himself on these topics, who has become a symbol of hope for the transformation and change of society, to humiliate his memory and to violate the personal rights of his family is, to put it mildly, impolite,” the statement said:
“Today in Turkey, we see the targeting of Yılmaz Güney, whose memory evokes peace and hope for millions, by the new era artists who cannot speak out against the systematic attacks on women, Kurds, workers, revolutionary forces, LGBTI+s, against the policies of impunity of the police, the government and those they protect, as a disingenuous delirium of applause that winks at the millions exposed to manipulation. We see the state of being without ideas, where historical unconsciousness is wrapped in evil, and we present the point of opportunism on behalf of those who speak to the public's appreciation.’

“WE WILL EXERCISE OUR LEGAL RIGHTS”
According to the news in BirGün, the statement responding to actress Farah Zeynep Abdullah said, “We evaluate her statement at this level, we reiterate that we understand and see that violence and evil cannot raise a voice to their true owners, and that we will be against any understanding that sees Yılmaz Güney as a symbol of violence.”.
The statement continued as follows:
“We share the hope for a future where no human being in this country is subjected to the slightest injustice or violent behavior, and we would like to emphasize that Yılmaz Güney's will to change, transformation and tireless struggle is a value that feeds this hope. We respectfully submit to the public that we will continue to protect the spiritual memory of Yılmaz Güney and the personal rights of his family and relatives by using all our legal rights for every individual involved in the smear campaign, especially actress Farah Zeynep Abdullah, who ignored our sincere warnings.”
