{"id":285710,"date":"2026-05-07T05:07:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T05:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/halkweb.com.tr\/?p=285710"},"modified":"2026-05-07T05:07:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T05:07:32","slug":"butlan-sutlan-and-cirtdan-a-tale-of-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/halkweb.com.tr\/en\/butlan-sutlan-and-cirtdan-a-tale-of-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Butlan, Butlan and Velcro: A Tale of Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The agenda is busy; the screens echo the famous rhyme of CHP Chairman \u00d6zg\u00fcr \u00d6zel at the group meeting: <em>\u201cI say to those who put their hopes in butlana and butlana...\u201d<\/em> As these words form a rhyme in the mind, one thinks of the famous rhyme one listened to as a child. <strong>Velcro<\/strong> the joke just drops.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Grandma's Safety Deposit and Looting Bargain<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once upon a time... In a country, <strong>Velcro<\/strong> There lived a mischievous boy named C\u0131rtdan, who was as tiny as his name, small in stature but with a gleeful look in his eyes. Those who saw him would look at his one inch height and say, \u201cWhat's the use of that?\u201d but C\u0131rtdan's mind was a sea of water. One day he intended to go to the forest to collect firewood with the neighborhood children. Nene (that is, the pure will of the people) called the children to her and warned them:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 <em>\u201cMy balas, I entrust you with the Velcro. Take this fragrant <\/em><strong><em>looters<\/em><\/strong><em> (For the sake of these looters, take care of C\u0131rtdan, don't leave him on the road.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The children ate the loot with appetite, but when they entered the forest, this rascal started to whine: <em>\u201cWhat do I care, my grandmother entrusted me to you, you ate the looters; you will carry my firewood and take me on your backs!\u201d<\/em> Because of her nagging and endless bargaining over \u201ccustody\u201d, the children wasted time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Two Divergences in the Mind<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sun had set and darkness swallowed the forest. At that point, the children came to a crossroads. As with today's CHP, minds were divided:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pitch Black Road (Village Road):<\/strong> It is the CHP's traditional, principled and more laborious path that eventually leads to \u201chome\u201d (power). This path does not shine from afar, it requires patience and consistency.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Lighted Path (Giant's Path):<\/strong> What shines from afar in the political arena appears very \u201cbright\u201d, \u201cpopulist\u201d and attractive. This path, which is taken by those who want to march for short-term success or just for the excitement of \u201ckicking the can down the road\u201d, is in fact the light of a disaster, the Giant's hearth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tired and eager to get to the end, the children ran towards the shimmering light.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. The Raft Stone and the End of the Giant<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the giant was plotting to eat the children, the little rascal kept him busy with his wit. Throughout the night, he bought time with excuses of the \u201cbutlan and chutlan\u201d variety. Finally, when the children escaped and crossed the river, he gave the Giant the famous wisdom to come after them:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 <em>\u201cLook, here is a flat raft stone! Tie it tightly to your belly and it will float you like a boat on the water!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The giant believed C\u0131rtdan's words. When he tied the heavy \u201craft stone\u201d around his waist and jumped into the water, the stone pulled him to the bottom like an anchor. The children were saved while the giant drowned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion and Appreciation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, in the political arena, everyone feels like a <strong>Velcro<\/strong>, and the other person is just a man to be defeated. <strong>Dev<\/strong> he sees. But as the tale ends, questions remain:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What happens to the labor of your grandmother who sincerely prepares a looter?<\/li>\n<li>Or to the conscience of the children who saw C\u0131rtdan as a burden on the road even though he ate the looter, and forgot loyalty when they reached the destination?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We don't know how many apples fall from the sky in a fairy tale, but we do know this: Keeping the Giant busy with the rhymes \u201cbutlan\u201d and \u201cbutlan\u201d is a sign of intelligence, but the real trick is to get the children safely across the stormy river.
