It is still easy to describe what is happening in Turkey as an \u201ceconomic crisis\u201d.
\nBut it is incomplete.<\/p>\n
Because this is not just a crisis.
\nIt is a form of distribution.<\/p>\n
It is a system in which it is largely clear who will lose and who will win.<\/p>\n
In Turkey, the old debates are no longer relevant.<\/p>\n
Right-left.
\nSecular-conservative.
\nCenter-periphery.<\/p>\n
These things may be talked about.
\nBut there is another distinction that is decisive:<\/p>\n
Survivalists
\nand those who don't have to.<\/p>\n
This is not a comment.
\nThis is everyday life.<\/p>\n
Today, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey may be raising interest rates.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is called \u201drational politics\".<\/p>\n
But who is rationality for?<\/p>\n
Because in the kitchen it's a different story.<\/p>\n
People do not learn about inflation from statements.
\nHe learns at the checkout.<\/p>\n
And that safe says the same thing every time:
\nIt is not enough.<\/p>\n
No class, huh?<\/p>\n
For years a story has been told to this country:<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone is middle class.\u201d
\n\u201cThe one who works wins.\u201d
\n\u201cHe who wills will rise.\u201d<\/p>\n
Today there is no equivalent to this story.<\/p>\n
There is one side:
\nGrowing with its presence.<\/p>\n
There is another side:
\nThose who cannot live off their labor.<\/p>\n
This is not just an inequality.
\nThis is a systematic decomposition.<\/p>\n
And it is becoming permanent.<\/p>\n
How does this system work?<\/p>\n
It is easy to explain the issue in terms of individual ambition.
\nBut this is not the truth.<\/p>\n
The reality is this:<\/p>\n
This is order,
\nprotects those with money.
\nThe one with money grows it.<\/p>\n
It does not protect the laborer.
\nIt leaves the laborer fragile.<\/p>\n
So there are not only \u201csuccessful ones\u201d.
\nThere is a structure in place that always produces a winner from the same side.<\/p>\n
Today it is not a question of \u201cmaking ends meet\u201d.<\/p>\n
Something heavier:<\/p>\n
Social resilience.<\/p>\n
People are not living.
\nIt is holding.<\/p>\n
It consumes less.
\nHe wants less.
\nHe dreams less.<\/p>\n
And the most dangerous:<\/p>\n
He gets used to it.<\/p>\n
Poverty becomes uneconomic after a while,
\nbecomes a psychological boundary.<\/p>\n
At that point society changes.<\/p>\n
It becomes silent.<\/p>\n
This is not a difference of opinion<\/p>\n
Calling it \u201cpolarization\u201d minimizes the issue.<\/p>\n
It is a matter of interest.<\/p>\n
If one sector is growing out of the crisis,
\nif the other sector is shrinking...<\/p>\n
This is not a debate.<\/p>\n
This means two different economic realities in the same country.<\/p>\n
\u201cSaying \u201dI am not a party\" is not a position in this picture.<\/p>\n
Because the existing order already protects someone,
\nneutrality is not about staying outside that order,
\nis to stay in it.<\/p>\n
So the issue is simple:<\/p>\n
Silence in the face of an unfair distribution,
\nnot neutrality, but acceptance.<\/p>\n
What is happening in Turkey is not a crisis.
\nA threshold.<\/p>\n
While one side is always losing,
\nwhen the other side is always winning...<\/p>\n
This is not sustainable.<\/p>\n
History is clear on this point:<\/p>\n
When the distance between hunger and appetite exceeds a certain point,
\nthat distance closes.<\/p>\n
But this closure does not happen by itself.<\/p>\n
It happens with difficulty.<\/p>\n
And when that moment comes,
\nit's not about the economy anymore.<\/p>\n
