Chains are no longer made of iron. They leave no marks on the wrists, nor do they carry a ring around the neck. But they exist. Chains that are thought not to exist because they are invisible, chains that are denied because they are not named... This is where modern day slavery begins.<\/p>\n
The slave of the past knew his master. He knew whom he served and by whom he was exploited. Today's people call their boss an \u201cemployer\u201d and themselves \u201cfree workers\u201d. But the reality has not changed; only the language has changed. Exploitation has found a more polite name for itself.<\/p>\n
Millions of people who wake up at the crack of dawn, dedicate their day to someone else's goals, and in the evening cannot even tolerate themselves because of exhaustion... People who give up living in order to make ends meet... And yet, a society that is still advised to be \u201cthankful\u201d.<\/p>\n
Modern slavery works not by starving, but by not allowing fullness. One is neither completely hungry nor truly full. Always a little lacking, always a little indebted, always a little unable to catch up... Because the system knows: People who are full question, while people who are left incomplete focus only on survival.<\/p>\n
Today credit cards, consumerism and debt are the new links in the chain. People no longer live to work, they work to pay their debts. Freedom is not the right to choose; it has turned into being stuck between options.<\/p>\n
Even more striking is this:
\nThis order tells people that they are equal.<\/p>\n
People who enter the same shopping mall, watch the same advertisements, dream the same dreams, think they are the same. However, one looks in the window, the other buys. One lives, the other just watches. But both are told the same fairy tale: \u201cIf you work, you too can succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hope thus becomes the most powerful tool of the system.
\nAn order that survives on probability, not reality...<\/p>\n
Modern slavery enslaves not only the body but also the mind. People no longer carry their chains; they defend them. They even legitimize the chains of others. Because to do otherwise would mean confronting one's own realities.<\/p>\n
The saddest thing is this:
\nNobody calls themselves a slave.<\/p>\n
Everyone is tired but no one questions why. Everyone can't make ends meet, but they blame themselves. The system continues to function as if it were perfect.<\/p>\n
Today's modern slaves live without knowing who their masters are.
\nAnd perhaps that is why the worst exploitation in history is taking place today.<\/p>\n
