I have been pointing out the same danger in this country for years.
\nI have said it many times in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey:
\nIf individual armament is not brought under control, we will pay a heavy price as a society.
\nToday, unfortunately, we are experiencing the pain of being right.
\nIt is no longer about street fighting.
\nThis is no longer an isolated incident.
\nIt is now directly about our future.
\nBecause today in Turkey, guns enter schools.
\nWhat happened in \u015eanl\u0131urfa and Kahramanmara\u015f has clearly shown us this:
\nThe children of this country now go to school not only out of fear of exams, but also out of fear for their safety.
\nWe are talking about a situation where a teacher lost his life and students were injured.
\nThis is not just a security vulnerability.
\nThis is a serious weakness in the most fundamental area of state responsibility.
\nI am saying it clearly from here:
\nIf children in a country go to school afraid, it means that the state is not fulfilling its most basic duty.
\nSo how did we get here?
\nBecause we have been warning for years, but no one listens.
\nBecause it is easy to acquire weapons in this country, but difficult to control them.
\nBecause individual armament has spread almost uncontrollably.
\nI said this on the floor of the Parliament:
\n\u201cIf you spread guns, you spread violence.\u201d
\nWhat we are experiencing today is a painful proof of this statement.
\nLook, it is not just about issuing licenses.
\nIt is a question of controlling who has that weapon, how it is stored, who has access to it.
\nA father with a gun in his house,
\nA young man who can't control his anger,
\nUnmonitored licenses,
\nIgnored psychological problems,
\nA language that normalizes violence...
\nIt all comes together and the result is:
\nDeath in the schoolyard, fear in classrooms, unspeakable pain in families.
\nBut we are still discussing the issue on the surface.
\n\u201cIncrease the number of security guards\u201d,
\n\u201cInstall a camera system\u201d...
\nYes, these may be necessary.
\nBut it is not enough.
\nIf you ignore the tendency towards violence in society,
\nif you ignore the hopelessness of the youth,
\nif you reduce the education system only to exams,
\nif you don't take into account the economic and social pressures that families face...
\nThen such incidents become inevitable.
\nBecause violence is a consequence.
\nAnd like any result, it is the product of a chain of causes.
\nViolence in schools today,
\nIn fact, it is the result of years of accumulated wrong policies, negligence and disregard of warnings.
\nThis is my open call to the government:
\nImmediately limit individual armament.
\nReorganize licensing processes.
\nMake inspections truly effective.
\nAggravate the conditions for gun ownership.
\nBut don't stop there.
\nStrengthen guidance and psychological support systems in schools.
\nMake young people feel that they are not alone.
\nMake educational institutions not only places of knowledge but also safe places to live.
\nAnd most importantly;
\ntake this country out of the politics of polarization, anger and fear.
\nBecause from a generation that grew up in fear,
\nfrom a society shaped by anger,
\na healthy future.
\nEvery painful event today reminds us of the same reality:
\nThis picture is no coincidence.
\nThis picture is the result of policies pursued for years, choices made and problems blatantly magnified.
\nSo let's be clear; we have come to this point through politics and we have to find the solution through the right politics.
\nIf the necessary steps are not taken today,
\ntomorrow we will have to pay a much heavier price.<\/p>\n
My last word is very clear:
\nSecular, scientific and public education is not a choice but a necessity for the children of this country.
\nUnless the understanding that makes education a space for ideological debates, neglect and insecurity is abandoned;
\nWe can neither stop the violence nor protect our future.
\nIf there is a gun where there should be a pen,
\nit's not just security there;
