The current state of politics in Turkey is not a coincidence. This picture is the result of an understanding that has been repeated and normalized for years, accepted without question and turned into a mentality over time.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou are so honest, you are not a politician.\u201d<\/p>\n
That insidious sentence...<\/p>\n
The first time it was said, it was a well-intentioned warning.
\nThen it became a recommendation.
\nOver time, it became an acceptance, and eventually an unwritten rule...<\/p>\n
And unnoticed, this has been ingrained in the public mind:
\nHonesty is a disadvantage in politics, not an asset.<\/p>\n
This is exactly where the rupture began.<\/p>\n
Because this seemingly \u201cinnocent\u201d sentence has changed over the years not only politics;
\neroded social trust, the sense of justice and the will to live together.<\/p>\n
It is easy to blame today's situation on one side, but it is incomplete.<\/p>\n
The politician has stretched the principle to preserve power.
\nSociety chose not to question the method for the sake of the result.<\/p>\n
Thus, a mutually feeding order was established without being noticed:
\nPrinciple has been replaced by pragmatism, transparency by the cover-up reflex and accountability by party loyalty.<\/p>\n
So it is not a one-sided deterioration;
\nis a system built together.<\/p>\n
There is a defense that we often hear at this point:
\n\u201cPolitics is already a dirty field.\u201d<\/p>\n
This sentence, which seems realistic at first glance, is in fact the strongest armor of legitimacy for today's corruption.<\/p>\n
Because there is a conscious distortion here:
\nIt equates politics being difficult with the inevitability of it being dirty.<\/p>\n
In strong and institutionalized systems, however, success comes not from flexibility but from adherence to rules.<\/p>\n
So it is not because politics is dirty.
\nIt is contaminated because it is accepted as such.<\/p>\n
Today, when a corruption allegation is made, the reaction of the society clearly shows where the issue has broken down:<\/p>\n
\u201cThose who defend \u201dus\"...
\n\u201cThose who blame the \u201dother side\"...<\/p>\n
But very few people say this sentence:
\n\u201cWhoever did wrong must be held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Because it is no longer about finding the truth;
\nprotecting the side.<\/p>\n
What is more striking is this:<\/p>\n
It is not the immorality that is being discussed, but its emergence.<\/p>\n
And this shows us something very clear:
\nBefore politics was corrupted, minds were formed that normalized that corruption.<\/p>\n
But is a way out possible?<\/p>\n
Yes, you can. But only if we start from the same place.<\/p>\n
If a society starts saying this sentence again:
\n\u201cI support him because he is honest\u201d<\/p>\n
that's when politics changes.<\/p>\n
But this is not a responsibility that belongs only to society.<\/p>\n
The duty of a politician is not to lean on the weakness of society,
\nthe will to transform that weakness.<\/p>\n
Real leadership is not about adapting to the existing ground;
\nis to move that ground up.<\/p>\n
Where we are today is the realization of that insidious sentence:<\/p>\n
\u201cYou are so honest, you are not a politician.\u201d<\/p>\n
No, no, no.<\/p>\n
The real danger is this:<\/p>\n
Accepting as normal a system in which honesty is penalized within the system.<\/p>\n
Because from that point on, it's not just politics.<\/p>\n
Society changes.
\nConscience changes.
\nThe perception of justice changes.<\/p>\n
And in the end, this is what happens:<\/p>\n
Honest people do not withdraw from politics...
\nPolitics pushes honest people out of the system.<\/p>\n
And when that day comes:<\/p>\n
Politics will not improve.
