I don't know if spring will come to my country again.
\nBut I know this:
\nSpring is not only about the blossoming of trees.
\nSpring is being able to speak without fear.
\nIt is a system in which those who ask questions are not labeled, those who criticize are not declared traitors, and labor prevails over patronage.
\nToday it is not about the season.
\nIt's about decay.
\nThe title used to be a consequence.
\nNow the title is an accessory.
\nIn the old days, a professorship was the reward for years of hard work; nights in the laboratory, archive dust, sweat in the field.
\nHow many people are really talking to data now? How many people are after the truth? How many people are not caught in the comfort of being visible without producing?
\nHe is called a manager. But can he manage?
\nThey say he takes decisions. Can he bear the cost of that decision?
\nHe is called a scientist. Can he do what science requires?
\nThe question is no longer: What does he know?
\nThe question is: close to whom?
\nBusiness cards have thickened. Content has become thinner.
\nThe signs are lighted. The rooms are dark.
\nThose who really work, those who produce day and night remain in the back rooms of the system. Because this system rewards visibility, not labor; it magnifies loyalty, not quality.
\nMerit has been reduced to a word.
\nJustice is a wish.
\nScience is valued according to applause.
\nWill spring come again,
\nOr will we be condemned to only wishing for spring?
\nWill we dream of a country where birds can fly free?,
\nor will we settle for a time when it takes courage to even look at the sky?
\nOnce the distinction was clear.
\nThere was a scholar.
\nThere was the scientist.
\nAnd then there was the movie guy.
\nAt least we would know who is after the truth and who is after pretense.
\nNow it is difficult to make that distinction.
\nThere is science with diplomas.
\nThere is science with diplomas.
\nAnd the unchanging extras of every era.
\nThe title is many. Business cards abound.
\nBut the country is in ruins.
\nBecause it's not about diplomas, it's about merit.
\nIt's not the title, it's the license.
\nIt's not about knowledge, it's about character.
\nIf those with merit are not considered acceptable in this country,
\nEven waiting for spring is a resistance in itself.
\nBut spring does not come by waiting.
\nSpring means not settling for decay.
\nSpring means not saying \u201cthe snake that doesn't touch me\u201d.
\nSpring is an objection to the normalization of fear.
\nMaybe the real question is:
\nWaiting for spring,
\nor to protect the cadres that will bring that spring?
\nBecause sometimes the longest winter,
