Mainstream is the name given to the way television creates a certain worldview through repeated and widespread patterns. In other words, the mainstream media is the widespread and prevailing current of thought shaped by the state or the owners of large capital directing large amounts of faith in large capital through various mass media.<\/p>\n
In Turkey, 27.3 out of every 100 people watch television for 2-3 hours on average on weekdays. The rate of those who watch 8 hours or more of television is %7.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, % 81.3 percent of the students watch television with their families, while 16.5 percent watch it alone and 16 percent watch it with friends.<\/p>\n
The above-mentioned factors, i.e. the rate at which students watch TV, make them advocates of a certain worldview. In other words, mainstream media hinders the development of children. In particular, it hinders children's cognition, emotion and social development.<\/p>\n
Cognitive development includes learning, understanding, attention, perception, memory, problem solving, reasoning and creativity skills. Cognitive development is also related to other areas of development, including language and communication, and social-emotional adjustment skills.<\/p>\n
The intensity of students' TV viewing negatively affects their attention. This situation also hinders school education. By affecting areas such as comprehension, perception, etc., it negatively affects their adaptation to real life.<\/p>\n
Undoubtedly, incompatibility leads to a number of negativities in the emotional field. In particular, it negatively affects the development of emotional intelligence, which is important for a person.<\/p>\n
As is known, emotional intelligence is the ability to observe and distinguish one's own emotions as well as the emotions of others and to use this information as a guide to one's thoughts and behaviors.<\/p>\n
As a result, the authorities and especially parents have to be conscious about their children's TV viewing as they are about most issues.<\/p>\n
