Answering questions about current issues, Karalar responded to claims that signatures were being collected for an extraordinary convention by saying, \u201cIf something like that were happening, they would have come to me.\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cWe paved the way for them to take power\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>Zeydan Karalar, noting that the debates at the convention stemmed from the \u2018normalization\u2019 policies initiated by \u00d6zg\u00fcr \u00d6zel and that there had been some criticism from the party base, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are the Republican People\u2019s Party. We have our own views, ideals, and goals. We have a duty to explain this to the public. At one point, it seemed as though we had paved the way for the ruling party to set the political agenda. Now we have reached that point again. Our party leader made a well-intentioned effort to bring relief to Turkey, but when we saw that it did not serve our interests and was being exploited by the current political administration, we took a different approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>\u00d6zel had said, \u201cI came up with the name; the normalization process is ongoing.\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>Although Zeydan Karalar said that \u2018this has been abandoned,\u2019 there has been no statement from the CHP leadership indicating that the \u2018normalization\u2019 policies have been abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>During a meeting with journalists in Ankara last month, \u00d6zg\u00fcr \u00d6zel responded to the question, \u201cHas the normalization process come to an end?\u201d as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI\u2019m the one who coined the term \u201dnormalization.\u2019 People are attaching all sorts of meanings to the word \u2018normalization\u2019 on social media, here and there. It\u2019s all lies and nonsense. They\u2019re exploiting it. There\u2019s only one thing I\u2019ve failed to do. I refrain from hurling insults or slander at Erdo\u011fan or Mr. Bah\u00e7eli\u2014or using language that wouldn\u2019t be uttered even in a street brawl\u2014and from doing anything that would shake this nation\u2019s trust in its political institutions or tarnish the reputation of politics. I\u2019ve never considered such behavior appropriate. That\u2019s why, when it comes to the question of whether normalization is over, I say it\u2019s not over\u2014it\u2019s still ongoing.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cAt one point, it seemed as though we had paved the way for the government to set the political agenda.
