The doors are locked, what can you say?<\/em>
\nIt's a pity we're locked up<\/em>
\nRoads are blocked<\/em>
\nThe city is defeated<\/em>
\nHunger has begun<\/em>
\nYou're out of weapons, so what can you do?<\/em>
\nWhat's wrong, darkness has fallen<\/em>
\nYou don't get laid, you don't get laid.<\/em><\/p>\n

Paul Eluard, who fought as a soldier in the French army in World War I, became a member of the French Communist Party in 1926, and then moved to Spain to fight against the Fascist Dictator Franco's regime, wrote the above lines upon the occupation of Paris by the Nazis during World War II.<\/p>\n

Those words, translated into Turkish by Sabahattin Ey\u00fcbo\u011flu and composed by Z\u00fclf\u00fc Livaneli, became an anthem in the language of millions of people who resisted oppression in Turkey for years.<\/p>\n

Eluard also became one of the symbols of the struggle against dictators in the world. Like Ezra Pound, he chose not to compromise with them, but to fight them. Both with his pen and his heart and wrist.<\/p>\n

Because he had such a great passion for freedom in his heart that no dictator could have restrained his passion.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my notebook at school,<\/em>
\nTrees to my desk,<\/em>
\nI'll write your name.<\/em>
\nRead leaves,<\/em>
\nOn snow-white pages,<\/em>
\nI'll write your name...\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He also wrote about his passion for freedom, and this poem was composed by Z\u00fclf\u00fc Livaneli and gave hope to millions of people struggling for freedom in Turkey for years.<\/p>\n

So why did I suddenly think of Paul Eluard?<\/p>\n

Those lines rolled off my tongue in the face of the incident that took place in front of the cameras in Esenyurt:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gates are locked...\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

CHP members started a vigil in the district against the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet \u00d6zer and the appointment of a trustee in his place.<\/p>\n

However, CHP protesters are not allowed into the municipality building. Even elected municipal council members are not allowed into the municipality building.<\/p>\n

Because the gates are blocked, under police blockade.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Ba\u015far\u0131r went to Esenyurt Municipality with some deputies.<\/p>\n

Riot police prevented the CHP delegation from entering the municipality.<\/p>\n

Ali Mahir Basar\u0131r then called the Speaker of the Parliament, Numan Kurtulmu\u015f.<\/p>\n

In the dialog that took place in front of the cameras, Kurtulmu\u015f was not heard saying what he said, but after a while it became clear that he had given his \u2018approval\u2019 for the CHP delegation to be allowed to enter.<\/p>\n

In fact, Ali Yerlikaya, the Minister of Interior, was also forced to apply for an entry permit. Apparently, Yerlikaya either did not pick up the phone or responded negatively.<\/p>\n

Ali Mahir Ba\u015far\u0131r was trying to persuade Kurtulmu\u015f by saying that MPs would react against Yerlikaya during the budget talks.<\/p>\n

This is what the CHP leadership called \u201cnegotiation on the one hand and struggle on the other\u201d.<\/p>\n

Activism as far as it is allowed,<\/em><\/strong>
\nAs much opposition as possible,<\/em><\/strong>
\nVisit as many times as the doors open.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe politics of \u201dI have acquaintances in high places\u2018 came to an end in Esenyurt in front of a police shield with a \"door opened with a phone call to an acquaintance\".<\/p>\n
