Speaking at a commemoration meeting for the 86th anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk, the founder of the Republic, President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan said, \u201cIf Gazi had lived 10 more years, we would have seen a different Turkey.\u201d.
\nThere have been different interpretations as to why Erdo\u011fan, whose past statements have given the impression that he does not like Atat\u00fcrk, used such an expression.
\nOne of the interesting allegations on this issue came yesterday from Cemal Enginyurt, a member of parliament for the Democratic Party in Ordu.
\nIn his post on his Twitter account, Enginyurt said, \u201cErdo\u011fan is setting up a new game. When he says that he wishes Atat\u00fcrk had lived 10 more years, he is making enemies of \u0130smet \u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc. Let's be vigilant. Let's not forget the one who said \u2018two drunkards\u2019.\u201d.<\/p>\n
When we called Enginyurt about his post, Enginyurt stated that Erdo\u011fan wants to demonize and discredit the republic and said, \u201cSince he knows that he would get a reaction if he were to directly denigrate Atat\u00fcrk, he denigrates the \u0130smet \u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc era by saying \u2019if he had lived 10 more years\u2019. In this way, he again wants to discredit the CHP period. Their problem is to settle accounts with the republic. Erdo\u011fan wants to replace Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk, he wants to be Atat\u00fcrk.\u201d.<\/p>\n
Reminding that Erdo\u011fan constantly targeted \u0130smet \u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc, Enginyurt said, \u201c\u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc, whom you targeted, did not take Turkey into World War II, where it would have suffered great destruction. I guess they are angry because they wonder why he did not take Turkey into the war. Turkey had no foreign debt during \u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc's period. The dollar was below one lira. While Erdo\u011fan is openly hostile to the republic and the CHP, the current chairman of the CHP is seeking normalization with him.\u201d.<\/p>\n
