What is going on at Education Power Sen?

Samsun Criminal Court of First Instance issued a deprivation of rights decision against Oğuz Özat, President of Eğitim Güç Sen.

It is stated that the court made this decision as a result of a lawsuit filed by the president of a trade union. Oğuz Özat, the president of Eğitim Gücü Sen, was sentenced to 20 months in prison for the crime of “illegally providing personal data” belonging to a union leader on his social media account, and the appeal against the decision was rejected by the Samsun Regional Court of Appeals.

Özat will not be able to hold public office, be a manager or auditor of associations, foundations, unions and cooperatives, and political parties, as the court decision also ordered him to be deprived of certain rights in accordance with Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code.

So what does this decision mean?

According to the allegation; since the conviction decision against Oğuz Özat, the President of Eğitim Gücü Sen, was issued in 2025, he will not be able to be a candidate for the Board of Directors in the 2nd Ordinary General Assembly of Eğitim Gücü Sen held in January 2026, and therefore he will not be able to serve as the general president.
