Turkey in the Mirror of Children

There has to be a new order for children in this country. This cannot be passed off as “family upbringing”; it is the duty of the state.

Children don't turn to violence for no reason. What pushes them to violence is the environment they grow up in.

Issue “a couple of bad boys” it's not. It is about the order into which children are born.

We have data. TurkStat's 2024 “Statistics on Children Arriving or Brought to Security Units” According to the bulletin, the number of incidents involving children who came to or were brought to security units in 2024 increased by %9.8 compared to the previous year and reached 612 thousand 651. The first place in the crimes attributed to 202 thousand 785 children who came or were brought due to being dragged into crime “wounding” var. Oranı %40,4.

What these figures say is clear: Children's tendency to use force is increasing. Moreover, the most common picture “wounding”. So the issue has become serious.

The home is the center of work.

In Turkey, as the cost of living increases, tolerance at home decreases; fatigue, anxiety, debt and insecurity harden the language of the home. If there is violence, humiliation and harsh punishment at home, children see this as normal; they learn and internalize aggression as a method of communication.

The digital environment accelerates this ground. Constantly stimulated attention, fragmented focus, decreased patience, instant reaction... The Ministry of National Education's 2025 “Violence Perception Survey”nda lise öğrencileri şiddetin en çok görüldüğü yer olarak dijital ortamı işaretliyor; katılımcıların %37,1’i dijital ortamda şiddetin yaygın olduğunu söylüyor. Çocuklar bu dili sadece yaşamıyor, izliyor; hem de düzenli olarak.

Bullying, threats and exposure on social media must be stopped before they spread too quickly. Bullying is also a disciplinary issue: School “it happened outside” should not run away, but protect the victimized child.

School is the place to teach the rules, but when something happens “keep his name out of it” the child learns that there are no rules. When there are no rules, impulsivity increases.

Belonging is also decisive in this process. The adolescent wants to measure his or her worth in a group. The child who is invisible at home and school “back” seeks. The group gives power, visibility; harshness and the use of force become the language of this power. Thus this behavior becomes not just an outburst of anger, it becomes an identity.

The murder of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi in Kadıköy on January 24, 2025 was a threshold. But this is not the only example. The murder of Atlas showed the same truth: childhood is now more vulnerable. The threshold for violence has fallen. Today, a word, a look, an argument can turn into something irreversible in a few minutes.

Society today is united in one sentence: “The maximum penalty.” This anger is understandable. Because it is not just a child that is lost; it is the trust of an entire community. People “tomorrow is my child” he speaks out of fear.

The solution is clear: There has to be a new order for children in this country. This work “family upbringing” It cannot be glossed over; it is the duty of the state. The state should not cover up violence at school; it should intervene immediately when aggression occurs and protect the child victim. Every school should have a psychological support system in place, disciplinary rules should be clear and there should be a standardized process in cases of use of force. Counseling services should be strengthened and expanded for anger management, coping with stress and impulse control during adolescence.

Children should grow up knowing this: Violent language is not normal and there is a price.
