Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu attended the opening of the CHP 100th Year Commemorative Forest as part of the party's 100th anniversary events. CHP leader answered journalists' questions after the program.
‘HE ANSWERED THE ’EOKA' QUESTION
As the CHP celebrates its 100th anniversary, party members, including President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, posted a video on their social media accounts yesterday explaining the party's history.
In the video, a photograph of EOKA, the Greek nationalist terrorist organization that attacked Turkish villages in Cyprus, was used in a reference to the period when Bülent Ecevit was President.

The inclusion of the photo in the CHP video became a topic of discussion. Kılıçdaroğlu made the following statements about the issue:
“What is in question there is a frame that shows how the EOKA fighters were buried during the Cyprus landings, because they are shown first. Then it shows how they were buried and then it shows the Turkish flag. Now, there is nothing as irrational as taking this photo and attacking the CHP through trolls. I would like to ask them why they did not raise their voices when the tomb of Suleyman Shah was kidnapped; why did Kılıçdaroğlu defend the tomb of Suleyman Shah? They do not know the CHP and are trying to defame it. The Republican People's Party stands for the state of the Republic of Turkey. We come from a tradition that founded this state. They have probably forgotten how Ecevit fought together with the late Erbakan during the Cyprus landings, how he buried the EOKA fighters in the ground, how he made our flag fly, but we have not forgotten and we will not forget. I want everyone to know that the Republican People's Party means Turkey.”
