Battlefields of the Global System: Technology, Data, Surveillance and Ideological Hegemony

Understanding the new battlefields of global capital is imperative for both solving the present and building a strategy for future struggle.

In today's world, war is not only fought with tanks, airplanes and missiles. The real war is being fought in invisible spaces, in data flows, algorithms, digital infrastructures, financial systems, communication networks and ideological apparatuses. Therefore, without understanding the new battlefields of global capitalism, neither the conflicts in the Middle East nor the major ruptures in world politics can be comprehended.

The new front of economic, commercial and technological warfare is not limited to classic tariffs or embargoes. Today, semiconductors, artificial intelligence infrastructures, 5G/6G communication networks, rare earth elements, data centers, digital platforms and payment systems form the nervous system of global capitalism. The US chip restrictions on China, sanctions on companies such as Huawei and ZTE, Taiwan's critical role in semiconductor production, threats of exclusion from the bank payment system, the financial blockade against Russia, China's attempt to break the dollar hegemony with its own Digital currency, and much more. Each of these is part of a large-scale battle to re-establish the global capital cycle.

This war is not fought with tanks, but with algorithms, data centers, fiber optic cables, satellites, artificial intelligence models, financial flows and cyber attacks. Data lines are as much the subject of war as energy lines, semiconductors are as critical as oil, and digital surveillance centers play a decisive role as military bases. This is why wars fueled by global capital will be silent on the surface, but their impact will be much deeper. A cyber attack that crashes a country's power grid, an algorithm that paralyzes the banking system, a data operation that manipulates the electoral process, an artificial intelligence model that directs the behavior of society, each of these are the new weapons of modern warfare.

The capital cycle of the global system no longer operates solely through flows of goods and money, but is being reorganized through information, data, algorithms and security. Financial markets, algorithmic transactions, high-frequency trading, shadow banking, tax havens, crypto-assets and Central Bank digital currencies are creating a new form of capital sovereignty that transcends the borders of the nation-state but puts the state apparatus at its service. This new form of sovereignty, unlike classical capitalist accumulation models, has a structure that controls both material production and all areas of social life through data flows.

While this transformation erodes the historical role of the Nation-State, it allows global capital factions to reshape the State apparatus according to their own interests. States are turning into mechanisms that are obliged to ensure the security of capital, not the people. For this reason, international relations are being redefined on the axis of Geoeconomics, Geotechnology and Biopolitics (Deciding death by intubation) rather than classical diplomacy. Areas such as migration regimes, visa policies, health crises, pandemics, climate disasters, water and food security are turning into management tools of the capital accumulation regime.

The ideological front of this new order is “Clash of Cultures” is governed by rhetoric. The clash of civilizations will lead to an inevitable clash of cultural differences on the surface, and perpetual Chaos in society will be kept on the agenda. This Chaos and perpetual conflict will mainly serve as a screen to make invisible the class conflict, exploitation, imperialist domination and the wars of interests of the global capitalist factions. This discourse is an ideological smokescreen designed to fragment the common interests of peoples, weaken class solidarity and divert the anger of the oppressed away from the real targets. The new political and ideological dimensions of the global system converge on three axes.

1. Repressive neoliberal forces. A regime where elections continue but all institutions are redesigned according to the interests of capital, where media monopolization, the politicization of the judiciary, the weakening of trade unions and the criminalization of opposition are normalized.

2. Racist and Right Populist Forces. The anger of the impoverished masses is not directed against capital, but against migrants, minorities, women, LGBTI+ and the fictitiously created “To Foreign Powers” the ideological channel. People's anger is not directed upwards, but to the neighbor next door.

3. Progressive-Liberal Forces. To popularize an ideological practice that emphasizes the discourse of multiculturalism, representation and diversity, but does not touch class inequalities and creates a space of legitimacy within the system.

When these three axes work together, the global system establishes a hegemony that appears both repressive and liberal, both nationalist and cosmopolitan. These seemingly contradictory but in reality complementary ideological forms are used to manage the crises of the capitalist order, channel popular anger and neutralize social opposition. In today's world, war is fought not only on the frontlines but also in minds, screens, data streams, algorithms and ideological apparatuses. Therefore, it is imperative to understand the new battlefields of global capital, both to solve the present and to build the strategy of struggle for the future.
