The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources made a statement about the posts, which were presented with the title “Investment opportunity” and used the logos of the Pipelines and Petroleum Transportation Corporation (BOTAŞ) and Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) to increase the perception of reality, and said, “It is a fraud attempt.”.
The analysis is as follows: “Scammers are organizing advertising campaigns on Facebook to Turkish users, using the photos of government figures such as Minister Varank and Selçuk Bayraktar. They claim that BOTAŞ shares will be offered to Turkish citizens. They also use the photos of Berat Albayrak and Kaan Yıldırım to inspire confidence. Most of the fake content is produced with the photo of Selçuk Bayraktar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BAYKAR.”
Handan Uslu, founder of the Observatory Center for Internet and Society Research, said:
“In this case, Facebook was responsible for victimizing 2 million Turkish users from more than 24 accounts. We found that Facebook earned more than 100 thousand TL from these activities.’
