Visibility, Perception and Political Judgment: A Psychodynamic Analysis of Voter Behavior in Turkey

Voters often vote for the narrative, not the truth. The one who hides better wins. Not the one who governs worse, but the one who looks worse loses.

1. Visibility - Perception - Punishment Mechanism
The social mind often works with this simple formula:
Apparent = Real = Judgeable

This is a mechanism known in psychology as the availability heuristic.
People think that what they remember most easily and what is in front of their eyes is the whole of reality.

The public will not recognize the pimp as a pimp.
He gets angry when he sees it, but he reveres the same person for not seeing his boss.

The political equivalent:

The politician whose scandal is visible is punished.
The one that better conceals the same or similar practice is protected

In the 2024 elections, this mechanism clearly worked in favor of the CHP. The scandals of the Cumhur Alliance candidates have not been forgotten, so there is no trust. In a possible early or timely general election, this time the scandals experienced in the heat of the moment
It will certainly write minus against CHP.

2. Not Presumption of Innocence, but “Perceptual Innocence”
There is a presumption of innocence (immunity) in public order.
Let no one think that this opens the door to innocence at first glance.
We can express it as “Perceptual Innocence” that operates in society.
the thing is that most of the time:

“I didn't see it, so it doesn't exist”.
As in the case of Deniz Baykal:

Known but not visible is tolerated.
The image is unforgivable.

This is also related to “cognitive dissonance”.
The negative truth about a figure one respects
by rejecting it.

3. Scapegoat Mechanism
Societies produce “agents” to simplify complex problems.
Some of the accusations against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu fall into this category:
The real perpetrator is complex, difficult to understand.
A simple target (one person) is easy to blame.

Today, this phase is a harbor where intra-party cliques within the CHP take refuge.
Scapegoating
A classic psychological defense mechanism!

4. Status, not Morality, is Judged
A significant part of societies judge status, not behavior:
Upper class “businessman”
Lower class “criminal”

This is in social psychology:
“It is referred to as ”status bias".
“The same verb takes a different noun in different positions.”

In politics too:
The strong do not make mistakes, they “strategize”
If the weak do the same, they will be “disgraced”

5. Fear and Conformity
“Why does an opposition make so much effort to create space for its opponent?
This is not irrational, but psychologically very familiar:

Conformity (compliance behavior)
People and institutions:
Instead of clashing with the system
Chooses to survive by adapting to the system

Add to that the culture of fear:
Adaptation not resistance
Reflex, not principle, becomes decisive.

When you keep throwing it at your opponent, you knowingly make the same mistake
What other explanation can there be?

6. The Psychology of the “Transmitter-Receiver” Metaphor
What is the political gain of constantly giving material to the other side?
“The side that always gives loses power.”

This is in psychology:
Reciprocity imbalance

The one who is always on defense looks weak
The one who constantly attacks is perceived as strong

The voter reads this:
“This side is making statements” may be to blame
“The other side is quiet and clear” is strong

7. Conclusion: Story Wins, Not Truth
The combination of all these mechanisms produces this:

Voters often vote for the narrative, not the truth.
The one who hides better wins.
It is not the one who governs worse who loses, but the one who looks worse.

“It's not what you do, it's how you look.”

To summarize succinctly, the naked truth of political psychology is this:

Societies are not as fair-minded as they think,
The visibility of crime is essential to punishment.

It's the same in politics!
Elections are won through perception, not reality.

Don't call yourself a politician if you don't know the issues we have mentioned,
resign as soon as possible and get back to work!
If you are doing this on purpose, it is proof that you are betraying the cause.

You are guilty in both cases, those who are in charge in this regard should pay the price and don't make the nation pay this price! If you have any shame...

The hills do not forgive mistakes, but what falls on the plain gets up quickly
the one who falls off the hill tumbles into the abyss.

Debt cannot be paid with debt.
Damage cannot be repaired with damage.

Caught up in his excitement and desire, the gambler sits down at the losing table and the casino becomes a party.

For he who strikes a man without a genie is struck by the devil!
