The murder case of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024 in Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır Bağlar district and was found dead in Eğertutmaz Creek on September 8, 2024, has reached a new stage. The family's lawyers announced that they have refuted the defendants’ defenses with the phone records and forensic informatics report they submitted to the Court of Appeal.
STRIKING EVIDENCE WITH FORENSIC FORENSIC REPORT
At a press conference, Güran family lawyers Mahir Akbilek and Yılmaz Demiroğlu emphasized that the mobile phone image records of the defendants were examined by expert experts and that the report prepared would radically affect the case. Akbilek stated that the study, which evaluated the “narrowed base report” and the National Criminal Bureau data, has been completed and said, “We are struggling to reach the truth.”.
WHY NEVZAT BAHTIYAR'S DEFENSE COLLAPSED
Lawyer Yılmaz Demiroğlu stated that Nevzat Bahtiyar's defense was refuted by forensic reports: “The phone data contradicts Bahtiyar's statements. According to the narrowed base study, there is a margin of error of 500 meters to 2 km in location determination. This invalidates the defendant's defense.”
COURT DECISION AND DETENTION PROCESS
On December 28, 2024, mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran and uncle Salim Güran were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for ’intentional murder against a child“. Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4.5 years for ”concealing criminal evidence“. Lawyers are preparing an application for the release of the detainees with the new report.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE APPEAL PROCESS
“The court of appeal should re-evaluate the verdict by taking into account forensic informatics and phone records,” Demiroğlu said, adding that they will follow the process. The report claims that the communication details of the defendants on the day of the incident are linked to the murder.
