It had come to light that Metin Akpınar had twin daughters, years later. Following Duygu Nebioğlu—the artist’s daughter, now 35, who was born from an extramarital relationship—her twin sister, Sevgi Katkıcı, has also broken her silence.
Metin Akpınar's daughter who appeared after 35 years spoke for the first time
Katkıcı, who described her journey on the YouTube channel “Ankara Masası,‘ couldn’t hold back her tears in the studio. Noting that she had been struggling alongside her sister for years and expressing her resentment toward her parents, Katkıcı said, ’Motherhood begins in the womb. I was so sad when I heard that our mother had abandoned us. I asked, ‘How could a mother do that?’ She left us when we were two months old. I understood when I became a mother myself. She told me, ‘I’m your mother.’ I replied, ‘No, you’re not my mother.’ ”Why did you leave us?’ I asked, and she gave no explanation. I also asked Mr. Metin, ‘Why did you leave us even though you knew about us?’ Although Mr. Metin denied it, he met with our biological mother for a while,” she said.

Metin Akpinar's ‘secret’ daughters turned out to be twins!
“I’m even more angry at my mother. She never became a mother. She never managed to be a mother to us,” said Katkıcı. “Do you just throw a two-month-old baby out onto the street? That’s abandonment. She never called or asked about us. I also want to commend my brother. He always put in more effort during this process. If Metin Akpınar had embraced us, these events would never have happened,” she said.
Metin Akpınar's first statement about his twin daughters who appeared after 35 years
‘I don’t want to be known as Akpınar’
During the program, Katkıcı said she could not accept that her mother and her uncle had abandoned her, and she made it clear that she would never take the surname Akpınar, stating:
“We didn’t register under his surname. We’re registered under my father’s surname, Özdener. I’ll keep the surname Nebioğlu, too. I don’t want to be known as Akpınar. Maybe if he’d acted like a father and shown us some love, but he could never take my father’s place.”
“The phrase ‘such a senseless incident’ in Mr. Metin’s statement is very hurtful. And this is coming from a father. It’s a very painful incident. I didn’t expect this statement to be put in writing. I expected him to speak with the same openness as we do,” said Katkıcı. “I’ve had surgery on my ears three or four times. I experienced hearing loss. Then the most wonderful people in the world came into our lives. They are very compassionate people. They never abandoned us. When my parents applied to adopt a child, they were told there were two girls, and asked which one they wanted. My father replied, ”They are twin sisters; flesh and blood cannot be separated—we will be parents to both of them.’”.

When asked, “What do you expect to happen next?” Katkıcı replied:
“First, we have to see and experience this. If he hasn’t reached out to us yet, it means he hasn’t accepted it. He couldn’t act like a father. I was expecting him to call right away. He still hasn’t called. He’s staying silent. It’s very sad.”
“We’re also getting comments like this: ”They’ve come forward after all these years. Are they after the inheritance?“ What do you say to reactions like that? Why did you file this lawsuit?” To that, he replied, “So he would acknowledge us. If it were anyone else, we would have filed a lawsuit against that person too. We knew our mother, but we didn’t know our father. It’s not about the money—no. These proceedings took place because he was an artist. We were still curious about who our father was. It’s just that since it was Metin Bey, it’s been talked about so much.”.
‘My children take after their grandfather’
Katkıcı, who has two children, said that while he doesn’t resemble him, his two children—especially his younger son—resemble Metin Akpınar very much.
