Mick and Trudie told VOA Turkish's Barış Çimen that their pension income, which is not enough under normal living conditions in the UK, makes them live like rich people in Turkey.
Apart from their travel videos, the British couple Mick and Trudie reached hundreds of thousands of viewers on YouTube, this time with a topical topic.
“MONEY THAT IS NOT ENOUGH IN ENGLAND MAKES YOU LIVE LIKE A RICH MAN HERE”
Mick, who says that he lives ‘like a rich man’ in Fethiye with the pounds from the house he rents in England, made another video and made a call to the world, saddened by the recent depreciation of the Turkish lira and the negative impact of the Turkish people.
“COME ON VACATION, LEAVE FOREIGN CURRENCY”
In the video, in front of the statue of Ataturk in Fethiye and the inscription “Ne Mutlu Türk'üm Diyene”, Mick explained the value of the Turkish Lira against major currencies such as Sterling, Dollars and Euros and called everyone to Turkey for a vacation.
The British couple, whom the locals call “Uncle Mick and Aunt Trudie”, have added to their holiday calls with the ‘Scenes from Turkey’ clip they compiled from their previous trips.
The British couple, who traveled from London to Fethiye via Skype connection, explained the purpose of their call and their observations there, and said that they were very upset on behalf of the Turkish people about the depreciation of the Turkish Lira.
“Turkey has always been the best value for money holiday destination, but now it's much cheaper; come and spend your vacation here and contribute to the Turkish people,” Mick said in the video.
Comparing prices in supermarkets and markets in the UK with those in Turkey, Mick explained how the fall of the Turkish lira has suddenly increased the value of the pound in their pockets with the example of the price of a jar of coffee.
Expressing his astonishment as “the coffee we bought for two and a half pounds a week ago suddenly dropped to one and a half pounds when the TL depreciated”, Mick stated that he was sorry that those living on minimum wage were crushed by the conditions.
