Unfortunately, the congress processes that have become “routine” in the Republican People's Party have turned into a stage for saving the day rather than a democratic renewal. The 39th Ordinary Assembly process was the last act of this picture.
On the one hand, the fact that President Erdoğan has shelved for the time being the term “shady chairman” that he has been using on various platforms for a long time...
On the other hand, Özgür Özel's constant need to “clean up” in order to get rid of the appearance of shame that he has been unable to shake off for months. This is not a perception; it is an outward, obligatory reflex.
As for Ekrem Imamoglu...
The picture that emerges is that Imamoğlu is trying to be a micro-scale copy of Erdoğan. Imitation means settling for a photocopy when there is an original. Why is it preferable to start off with mistakes and then imitate them? This question is being asked not in whispers but increasingly louder in the CHP base.
The de facto occupation of the CHP may not change anything, but it cannot be denied that it has cost the Republic and its values a lot.
From the government's perspective, the picture is even more striking:
“Within the framework of the understanding that ”the best opposition is ineffective opposition", it is clearly seen that all the moves of Özel and İmamoğlu are condoned.
The stage is kept wide open for them not to take refuge in victim literature and to continue their controlled heroics.
Tie shows in courtrooms,
notes served through lawyers,
footage from inside the courtroom,
attempts to shape Turkish politics directly, rather than on a local scale...
Even while all of this is happening, a “zone of immunity” draws attention.
Özgür Özel's red cards,
on-and-off light shows,
songs and folk songs at rallies,
“Shouts of ”My brave lion",
“30 or nothing” outbursts...
These scenes, disconnected from the real agenda of the society, can be wrapped in a heroic package for the time being thanks to the media system and troll networks they have established. But the packaging is getting emptier every day.
And at the end...
3900 pages of indictment,
12 parliamentary proceedings pending in Parliament,
Political betrayals committed against a beloved nation,
The allegiance shown to Aziz Ihsan Aktas,
and the systematic turning a blind eye to it all...
All the pieces are slowly falling into place.
And on the chessboard, it is becoming clearer every day that the game is no longer democracy, that the final moves of checkers and “shepherd's mate” are being played.
There remains only one truth:
Moves are running out. Public reputation is rapidly eroding. And the outcome is only a matter of time.
