CHP eyes Kurultay criminal case

The third hearing of the criminal case against the alleged irregularities in the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress will be held today.

The trial of 12 people, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, for alleged irregularities in the CHP 38th Ordinary Assembly will continue at Ankara 26th Criminal Court of First Instance. In today's hearing, the court is expected to listen to witnesses and hear the defenses of the defendants.

In the indictment, which accuses Özgür Özel of “rigging the vote by making people vote in exchange for money” at the congress where he was elected as chairman against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Kılıçdaroğlu was named as the victim and former Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş was named as the complainant.

The case is being held at Ankara 26th Criminal Court of First Instance and 12 defendants including Ekrem İmamoğlu, Özgür Çelik and İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay are on trial.

UP TO 3 YEARS IN PRISON

In the indictment, in addition to İmamoğlu, Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, Baki Aydöner, Erkan Aydın, Hüseyin Yaşar, Mehmet Kılınçaslan, Metin Güzelkaya, Özgen Nama, Rıza Akpolat and Serhat Can Eş are charged with ’rigging the vote“ under Article 112 of the Law on Political Parties, and are asked for imprisonment from 1 year to 3 years each.
