There are various definitions of analytical thinking:
It is a mental activity based on the ability to divide a whole into parts and to interpret the relationship between the parts and the whole and to distinguish the differences.
According to another definition, the logical process that results in reaching a single solution or few solutions (Hasan Güneş: Dictionary of Sociology Terms, utopia).
People with developed analytical thinking skills have developed critical thinking, logical reasoning, research, prediction, problem solving, diagnosis, alternative generation, reporting, organization, communication, troubleshooting, creativity, brainstorming, decision making skills.
In this article, the importance of analytical thinking will be explained and it will be discussed whether our educational situation is suitable for this understanding.
Critical thinking is a way of thinking that consists of mental processes such as reasoning, analysis and evaluation. In this sense, our education system is questionable.
Because our education system still follows a memorization method. This understanding prevents our children from thinking effectively.
On the other hand, rote learning prevents students from thinking logically.
It is a known fact that some students prefer traditional thinking, preventing them from thinking in a contemporary way.
Again, analytical thinking strengthens communication. In other words, analytical thinking leads to communication competence.
However, we have problems in this respect.
The fact that it causes students' lack of communication negatively affects their academic success. It also negatively affects the teacher's classroom management.
On the other hand, we see that students' research competence in general is insufficient due to the existing conditions.
Undoubtedly, this understanding is also directly and indirectly related to analytical thinking.
So, to some extent, students' lack of research can be attributed to the low level of analytical thinking in our students.
Again, in addition to the development of analytical thinking, the teacher's role modeling and the use of teaching methods that emphasize the group process can lead to research competence in students.
