Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy: There are no more faults to break in Marmara

Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy said, "Some of the faults in the Marmara Sea broke in 1984 and 1912, but they ignore these faults.'.

Earth Scientist Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy made statements about the possible Istanbul earthquake as a guest of the 4.Güç program presented by Mustafa Deniz and Yunus Emre Avcı on TV5.

Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy stated the following regarding the possible Istanbul earthquake

“Those who said “there will be an earthquake of 8’ came out within 2 months after the earthquake. We said that there is no such fault on the Adalar fault, there is a fault on the Yalova-Çınarcık coast, and it broke in 1984. All the things they said were thrown in the garbage within 25 years. All of them were saying ”there will be an earthquake on the North Marmara coast’, but there is no earthquake there. There are no more faults in Marmara. There is only a reverse fault in the part we call the Kumburgaz pit, that fault broke in 2019, but this fault is not within the North Anatolian fault. Some of the faults in the Marmara Sea broke in 1984 and 1912, but they ignore these faults. When you say 7.8, 8.1, 400 km of faults should break, but the surface of Marmara is 70 km. Without knowing these facts, everyone is grasping from somewhere, saying that there will be an earthquake.“
