Some ATMs affiliated with Bank of Ireland gave out more money than was actually requested, allowing customers to withdraw money even if they did not have sufficient funds in their accounts. The story spread quickly through social media and people formed long queues to use these special ATMs.
Police Intervention Required Reports of “unusual mobility and congestion” were received at different points across the city and police teams were dispatched to these areas. Police officials took control of the situation and helped manage the queues and congestion.
In a statement on its official social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Bank of Ireland said that due to a technical glitch in its ATM and mobile banking applications, customers may be subject to higher than normal withdrawal and transfer limits. The bank advised customers to check their account balances and avoid overdrafts or transfers.
Technical Problem Fixed Later, the bank announced that the technical problem had been resolved and that both ATMs and the mobile app were back to normal. This statement emphasized that the problem has been fixed and things are back to normal.
